List of Conference Accommodation in South africa
Whether you are looking for an intimate venue with conference facilities for just a few delegates or require a large venue to accommodate many delegates, South Africa has them all. In fact, there are over 1000 conference and exhibition venues ranging from intimate hideaways in the rural areas to full-scale, hi-tech conventions centres in the major cities.
As to South Africa’s past record of hosting international events at its three International Convention Centres, below are some details what has been and it is possible to achieve:
- The 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development was hosted in Johannesburg and is billed as Africa’s largest conference to date. Approximately 40 000 delegates, including about 190 heads of state, were spread across three of the city's premier venues: the Sandton Convention Centre, which boasts the most advanced conferencing and exhibition technologies available; the Expo Centre, the largest convention facility on the continent; and the Wanderers Stadium.
- The International Convention Centre in Durban is one of the largest in the country. Along with its adjacent Durban Exhibition Centre, it can handle conferences of up to 15 000 delegates. This venue hosts the annual Indaba travel trade show, which showcases southern Africa's best tourism destinations and products. In 2001, it was the venue for the United Nations' World Conference against Racism.
- The Cape Town International Convention Centre is able to cater for conventions of up to 10 000 delegates. It is also well-placed to cater to the corporate market looking to host small conferences, team building experiences, incentives and executive breakaways.
Here is a list of some of the different types of conference venues that are available in South Africa from which you choose:
Accommodated conference venues offer lodging and catering facilities in addition to a conference or boardroom, and are generally suited to smaller conferences due to their size. Refreshments are provided throughout the day’s conference too.
Conference centres At these venues no accommodation is offered, though they are all located within walking distance of several hotels. They will have larger delegate facilities than those mentioned above and are well suited for product launches and trade shows.
Game Lodges are ideal for high-level executive conferences, seminars and meetings, there are a variety of game lodges from which to choose, located within a short trip from international airports.
Hotels offer the whole package: from accommodation to conferencing, from leisure to dining. They often have in-house conferencing managers who will organize the conference from beginning to end.
So, if you are looking for a destination to host your next conference or event then keep South Africa at the top of your list.
