Grootbos Private Nature Reserve

Detailed description
Grootbos is home to two 5-star sanctuaries - Garden and Forest Lodge. Set amongst ancient Milkwood trees, our eco-friendly accommodation about 160 km from Cape Town consists of large, free standing one- or two-bedroom luxury suites. Each free-standing suite is set in tranquil surroundings where guests have the chance to unwind amidst the splendors of nature.
The Forest Lodge:
The Forest Lodge built in 2006 is an architectural masterpiece of sophisticated contemporary design, positioned on the fringes of a 800-year old Milkwood Forest. The Lodge consists of a main lodge, as well as 16 luxurious, freestanding suites built on the edge of the forest.
Volumes of space under slate roofs are framed by glass, steel and natural brick to maximize the sweeping views across Fynbos and dunes to the ocean. The Lodge offers a fine-dining restaurant, a champagne bar, a wine cellar for private dinners and a modern conference centre. Winding pathways through the forest lead to individual luxury suites of 90sqm, which provide the ideal blend of privacy and supreme comfort. Each suite is furnished with rich textures, romantic canopy beds with the finest linen and down quilts, spacious sunny bathrooms, separate lounges with cozy fireplaces and mini bars. From your private deck you can soak up exquisite ocean and mountain views and watch the sun disappear from a flaming sky into the Atlantic Ocean.
*Suites are nestled on the fringes of one of the biggest Milkwood Forests in the world with trees up to 1000 years old.
*Only lodge in Southern Africa, where you can see the sun setting into the Atlantic Ocean.
The Garden Lodge:
The original Grootbos Lodge is surrounded by Fynbos gardens and an ancient Milkwood forest with trees over 900-years old. Accommodation is in 11 luxury suites, each individually designed. Totally refurbished in a manner that reflects stylish and African inspirations, the luxury garden suites all have breathtaking views over the whale-watching haven of Walker Bay.
All suites have a separate bedroom with en-suite bathroom, large outside decks and a spacious lounge with fireplace and mini-bar. The suites vary in size from a two-bedroom suite of 120 sqm to the one-bedroom suites of approximately 80 sqm. The Garden Lodge facilities include a restaurant with terrace, a bar, lounge, swimming pool and a small beauty salon, where you can enjoy various beauty treatments. The stables and children play area are only a short walk from the lodge.
*Suites are nestled into indigenous Fynbos gardens and an ancient Milkwood Forest, with trees over 1000-years old.
*Only lodge in Southern Africa, where you can see the sun setting into the Atlantic Ocean.
