The farm is home to M.A.R.S - the Mara Animal Rehabilitation Sanctuary, the aim of which is not only to offer sanctuary and assistance to injured birds, exotic pets and small wildlife, but also to educate the general public on protecting the abundant natural bird and wildlife we are privileged to have in this magnificent area. M.A.R.S was established on Mara Farm 8 years ago and has helped, given home to and rehabilitated numerous species of injured and mistreated mammals, reptiles and birds in that time.
At present the farm is home to miniature horses, raccoons, South American burrowing owls, meerkats, peacocks, wild boar and a host of farmyard friends. A reptile centre is currently being completed and will soon house an interesting selection including Cayman crocodiles, Boa-constrictors, reticulated pythons and various lizard species.
Guests are welcome to spend times with the animals and we encourage children's questions and involvement

An 8km drive will bring you to the Caledenspoort Border Post, the closest access point into Lesotho from Clarens, and the quickest route to the Afri-Ski Lodge, but don't forget your passports.
The Fouriesburg - Clarens route is a scenic marvel of rolling farmlands and sandstone outcrops that are a photographer's dream. Mid-way on the right hand side you will find the the Old Mill Drift turn-off (tarred) which follows the Little Caledon River along the border of Lesotho. This is a scenic and interesting drive giving a glimpse into Lesotho's typical rural village life. On returning to the main road turn right toward Clarens. Surrender Hill, the famous Boer War battle surrender site will be on your left hand side. This is where captured arms and ammunition were burnt, and until this day nothing will grow here. The Fertility Caves, the enormous sandstone overhang that is a sacred place of worship for Sangomas and the devout lies 10km from Clarens on the left hand side. Tours can be arranged to this fascinating and important site which plays an important role in local rural life.
