Detailed description

The lodge comprises 5 thatched rondavels furnished to a high standard and fully serviced. Clean and comfortable, the rooms (1 of which is a double) are en suite and contain large fans which provide the dual function of keeping the room cool and the mosquitoes at bay.

Each room has a large window which looks out on beautifully kept gardens where small antelope are often found grazing. Tea and coffee making facilities are available in each room and hairdryers are provided.

All meals are served in the ouside lapa area and dinner is announced around a crackling camp fire underneath the stars.

Nyala Safari Lodge is situated on the banks of the Mohlabetsi River (meaning 'sweet waters'). The 5 large rondavels and family cottage accommodate up to 14 guest

Nyala Lodge is equipped with 5 luxury thatched rondavels and a linked thatched roof family cottage each beautifully appointed with ethic furnishings, draped in romantic fabrics that bring about an atmosphere that is truly African.

The beds are covered in subtle Percale cotton sheeting and finished with ultra luxurious duvets, giving guests luxurious comfort. Overhead fans whisper gently to keep the pure African air circulating evenly in the room.

Generous bathsheets are provided in the en-suite bathrooms while the deck at Nyala - that is shaded by the enormous and ancient ebony trees - juts out above the dry riverbed of the Mohlabetsi River and affords wonderful views of the waterhole to complete the Safari Experience.

The fully serviced lodge provides an extraordinary adventure for nature lovers, where a tastefully decorated lounge area outside - under the thatch - overlooks the seasonal river bed and water-hole.

An elevated wooden deck provides restful game viewing in the shade of the large Weeping Boer-bean overlooking the river bed and water-hole.

Dining takes place in the “Boma” where the peaceful outdoors assist in relaxing the soul. With self-catering as an option, meals may be prepared in the kitchen or over the fire in the “Boma”. The experience of Nyala will be etched in your memory forever.

Our Rangers are accredited and fully qualified and thus ensure that the Guests receive excellent, informative as well as highly entertaining game drives.

All aspects of the Fauna & Flora found in the Reserve are covered in great detail when you experience one of the many Bush Trails offered by the qualified Guides and Trackers at the Reserve.

Our attention to detail doesn't go un-noticed as Guests always leave with the memory of an unforgettable experience. Conservation and the Environment top our priority list and we are always trying our utmost to stimulate and educate our Guests in this regard.

Umhlametsi Private Nature Reserve (meaning 'one days water') is a place where time stops and life. The reserve has two non-perennial rivers meandering through the area and draws a diversity of wildlife and birds.

White Rhino, Lion, Buffalo, Leopard, Cheetah, Eland, Nyala and other African animals can be discovered on open vehicles.

The reserve is situated in one of Africa's most treasured and prolific wildlife regions. It is located on the western boundary of the Kruger National Park.

Umhlametsi offers you an encounter with the African bushveld in your own way and in your own time. The riverine habitat, open grasslands, mixed woodland and many vantage points and game hides ensure the opportunity of seeing a diversity of bird and wildlife.

Rangers will plan walks and game drives according to guests' requirements.

The reserve has a number of superb vantage points with magnificent views of the Drakensberg Mountains and the surrounding bushveld.
