Detailed description
The lodge comprises 5 thatched rondavels furnished to a high standard and fully serviced. Clean and comfortable, the rooms (1 of which is a double) are en suite and contain large fans which provide the dual function of keeping the room cool and the mosquitoes at bay.
Each room has a large window which looks out on beautifully kept gardens where small antelope are often found grazing. Tea and coffee making facilities are available in each room and hairdryers are provided.
All meals are served in the ouside lapa area and dinner is announced around a crackling camp fire underneath the stars.
Nyala Safari Lodge is situated on the banks of the Mohlabetsi River
(meaning 'sweet waters'). The 5 large rondavels and family cottage
accommodate up to 14 guest
Nyala Lodge is equipped with 5 luxury
thatched rondavels and a linked thatched roof family cottage each
beautifully appointed with ethic furnishings, draped in romantic
fabrics that bring about an atmosphere that is truly African.
The
beds are covered in subtle Percale cotton sheeting and finished with
ultra luxurious duvets, giving guests luxurious comfort. Overhead fans
whisper gently to keep the pure African air circulating evenly in the
room.
Generous bathsheets are provided in the en-suite bathrooms
while the deck at Nyala - that is shaded by the enormous and ancient
ebony trees - juts out above the dry riverbed of the Mohlabetsi River
and affords wonderful views of the waterhole to complete the Safari
Experience.
The fully serviced lodge provides an extraordinary
adventure for nature lovers, where a tastefully decorated lounge area
outside - under the thatch - overlooks the seasonal river bed and
water-hole.
An elevated wooden deck provides restful game
viewing in the shade of the large Weeping Boer-bean overlooking the
river bed and water-hole.
Dining takes place in the “Boma” where
the peaceful outdoors assist in relaxing the soul. With self-catering
as an option, meals may be prepared in the kitchen or over the fire in
the “Boma”. The experience of Nyala will be etched in your memory
forever.
Our Rangers are accredited and fully qualified and
thus ensure that the Guests receive excellent, informative as well as
highly entertaining game drives.
All aspects of the Fauna
& Flora found in the Reserve are covered in great detail when you
experience one of the many Bush Trails offered by the qualified Guides
and Trackers at the Reserve.

Umhlametsi Private Nature Reserve (meaning 'one
days water') is a place where time stops and life. The reserve has two
non-perennial rivers meandering through the area and draws a diversity
of wildlife and birds.
White Rhino, Lion, Buffalo, Leopard, Cheetah, Eland, Nyala and other African animals can be discovered on open vehicles.
The
reserve is situated in one of Africa's most treasured and prolific
wildlife regions. It is located on the western boundary of the Kruger
National Park.
Umhlametsi offers you an encounter with the
African bushveld in your own way and in your own time. The riverine
habitat, open grasslands, mixed woodland and many vantage points and
game hides ensure the opportunity of seeing a diversity of bird and
wildlife.
Rangers will plan walks and game drives according to guests' requirements.
The
reserve has a number of superb vantage points with magnificent views of
the Drakensberg Mountains and the surrounding bushveld.

Shady trees and tranquil surroundings create the perfect atmosphere for relaxation. There is a prominent waterhole carefully positioned in front of the lodge and permanently floodlit. A viewing deck provides a wonderful opportunity to observe all kinds of wildlife visiting the waterhole. There is also a comfortable area perfect for a quiet drink whilst watching the sunset.

Things to do and see
Over and above standard game drives in the reserve, a number of other activities are offered to guests. These include guided interpretive bush walks which focus on all aspects of the flora and fauna in the reserve and give a wonderful overview of the rich history and culture of the area.
The highlight for most guests who stay two nights or more is the excursion into the Greater Kruger Park along the Olifants River. Here, deep in the heart of the African bush, elephants, hippo, crocodiles and many other species are frequently encountered.
Other attractions in the area include a wildlife rehabilitation centre, cheetah breeding project, the Kruger National Park, the Drakensberg mountains, Shangaan cultural village and a visit to a local 'sangoma' (traditional healer). Activities include white water rafting, horse riding, mountain biking, microlite and light aircraft flights. These activities and excursions can be organised from the lodge and are particularly recommended for guests staying four nights or more.
