Sun City and Lost City Resort

Contained within the Sun City Resort, which is located in the Northwest Province of South Africa, are four magnificent accommodation and entertainment venues.

These are the Sun City Hotel , The Cascades Hotel , The Palace of the Lost City , and The Cabanas Hotel .

The creation of this magnificent destination is as a result of the determination and belief in the tourism potential in this country, of South Africa’s very own hotel prodigy: Sol Kerzner. He discovered an uninhabited volcanic valley at the foot of the Pilanesburg Mountains, and decided it was the perfect location for a luxury ‘hotel in the sun’. At the time there were few who might have agreed with him, but now there are many thousands who appreciate his foresight.

The resort began with the Sun City Hotel , opened to the public in 1979. Alive with the buzz of a constant stream of activity, this is the epicentre of the resort’s entertainment.

There are world-class restaurants, casinos and stage revues, making it a 24-hour-a-day entertainer’s paradise.

The Sun City Hotel was followed by a second sumptuous hotel, the Cascades, which features a tropical garden, cascading waterfalls, and a flamingo lake. It is the ‘Grand Old Lady’ of Sun City and is popular amongst visitors who have visited the resort before.

The Cascades has fine-dining restaurants and elegant bars, and offers unparalleled seclusion and escape from the hustle and bustle of the rest of Sun City. This was followed with the ‘re-creation’ of an ancient Lost City, Sol Kerzner’s ultimate fantasy creation. The Lost City boasts the ruins of old temples, ancient carvings, grottos – and leaves one with a sense of an ancient civilisation having passed through, an eon ago.

There is a very strong sense of Africa at The Lost City, carried through in every décor detail. For a more relaxed and casual holiday, one perfectly suited to families with young children, The Cabanas is a lakeside hideaway. Opening out onto lush gardens, with a lake which is a water-sport playground for visitors of all ages, The Cabanas is the fourth in the group of hotels in the Sun City Resort. Activities within the resort are many and varied, and cater for young and old alike.

There is superb golfing to be played on one of its two 18-hole signature courses, gaming at the Casino at the Sun City Hotel , attending live performances in the Entertainment Centre, and probably the biggest highlight of all: The Valley of Waves. One of the most advanced water parks in the world; it boasts a huge wave pool and 5 different water rides. There is horse-riding for the brave and adventurous. A games centre for children.

There are many restaurants, to cater for all palates and preferences. Today the Sun City Resort Complex is one of the world's largest adult entertainment centres, a luxury theme park for grown-up kids. And when the day's play is over, there are beds for more than 2000 guests.
