Detailed description
Close encounters with rehabilitated (orphaned) as well as wild animals will leave a lasting impression on all guests.Visitors can observe the Big 5 as well as a wide variety of antelope and bird species on game drives and walks with a knowledgeable ranger sharing the wonders of the bush.
Accommodation is in 6 thatched cottages ( 3 of which are family cottages) with private bathrooms. The camp has a total of 20 beds.
For big groups as well as for our school Educational and Environmental Courses and youth groups there are two big dormitory-style thatched, (fully mosquito gauzed) platforms containing bunk beds and ablutions downstairs. The camp contains a central indoor and outdoor eating area under thatched roofs as well as a cosy boma for your evening braai. There is a big, fully equipped kitchen where you have your own fridge and cupboard. Our staff will assist you with the preparation of the food, make fires, help with the braai and generally make your stay comfortable.
Relax around the pool or watch the animals drink at the waterhole and walk across the plain from a wonderful viewing platform, There is a great playground for the kids. Sheets, towels and a limited amount of firewood are provided. All you have to bring along is your food and drinks.
Features
The family-owned Tshukudu Private Game reserve is easily accessible and close to the attractions and activities of the area. In between morning walks and afternoon game drives there are numerous things to do and enjoy; may it be a boat ride on the Blyde Dam, a short Hike to the Waterfall, visiting the Kharmai Reptile Park, viewing and climbing on the most stunning Baobab or Horse Riding, Elephant Back Safaris and many other activities.
History:
Building up Tshukudu Game Reserve has been a labour of love for the Sussens family.
The Reserve was started in 1980 on what used to be a cattle ranch. Although many antelope species as well as giraffe were already on the property a variety of animals had to be reintroduced. One of the first were rhinoceros, hence the name “Tshukudu” which means “rhino” in Sotho.
