Interesting Places to Visit in South Africa
South Africa is one of the most interesting and diverse countries in the world. The beauty of this place is only matched by a few places in the world. Besides nature preserves there are also other interesting places to visit. Out of the many towns and cities in South Africa, Durban is considered one of the most fun places to visit. Durban is blessed with an awesome beachfront. The city is blessed almost year round with sunny weather and the city itself is a very entertaining place to be in.
Cape Town on the other hand is the old city of South Africa. It was the first place to get colonized and has a lot of culture. Nearby there is Table mountain which is major tourist attraction. If you want you can either hike up the mountain or take a cable car. The next places worth visiting would be Kruger National park, Drakensberg Mountains and Robben Island. If you want to see those lions, elephants and giraffes up close then Kruger national park is the place to be. After visiting Kruger Park you will see that watching wild life on television is not quite the same.
The Drakensberg Mountains is a mountain range that stretches the entire length of KwaZulu- Natals western boundary. The entire length is approximately 600 miles. This is where the famous author of “The lord of the Rings” J.R.R Tolkien got his inspiration for his famous books. In these books “misty mountains” is mentioned and this was inspired by the Drakensberg mountain ranges. Robben Island is famous for it prison where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. It is on South Africa’s list of world heritage sites.
The KwaZulu Natal coast is famous for its snorkeling. The water is relatively warm because of the warm currents of Agulhas. The water temperatures can reach as high as 25C. On this coastline there is a place called Sodwana Bay which is perhaps the most popular place for snorkeling. This area is large and well preserved. Another very popular place for snorkeling is Maputaland. It belongs to both Cape Vidal and Kosi bay nature preserve.
