The growth of sevens rugby worldwide is due to the sheer exposure the sport has received at events, such as Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens (NMBS). Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens is South Africa’s largest rugby event.

Now in its fourth year, the event has been moved to the XEROX Stadium NMMU. “NMMU is a wonderful venue, located just 5 minutes from the beach front. Summerstrand has a history of being able to host successful events.

From a players, sponsors & organisers perspective the location is ideal, the stadium is in pristine condition.” Says Laurence Finn, NMBS’s Marketing Director. “The people of the Eastern Cape have been starved of quality club & provincial rugby for a number of years. Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens offers the public the opportunity to watch quality rugby & entertainment in a family environment that is controlled & safe.

Our event is the perfect opportunity to showcase the regions ability to host people from all backgrounds, race & religion proving that rugby can be played by all, in a civil sportsman like manner. Together with the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality & our other sponsors we continue to strive to achieve a world class event, to which the residents of Port Elizabeth can be proud of. In 2007, we achieved television exposure in the UK & the USA plus over 480 minutes of exposure on SABC & MNet, this television coverage is set to continue.
